Overheating, no heat, coolant leaks
The cooling system keeps the engine from cooking itself and runs your heater. In Minnesota, the first sign is often a heater that blows cold in January.
Signs of trouble
- Temperature gauge climbing, or the red temperature light. Pull over and shut it off.
- Heater blowing cold, or only warm at highway speed
- A sweet smell, steam, or a green, orange or pink puddle
- Check engine code P0128: engine not reaching temperature, often the thermostat

- Refill and bleed the air out of the system

Overheating can warp a cylinder head fast. If the gauge is in the red, stop driving and text us. Never open a hot radiator cap.

Questions
It only overheats sometimes. Can I keep driving?
No. Each overheat risks a head gasket, which is a much bigger job. Get it checked while it's still a thermostat or a hose.
